In 1971, a multiculturalism policy is implemented to promote respect for cultural diversity and the right of ethnics groups to preserve and develop their own cultures within the canadian society. The issue of living together in Canada is characterized by a diversity of cultures and identities never subsumed in a homogeneous unity. Multiculturalism worries most Quebeckers, who see in it a way of undermining there sovereignist aspiration, and islamophobia increases since 9/11. Islamism, as a movement grouping the most radical currents of Islam engenders a feeling of fear within the society. The Muslim community in Quebec suffers from the media treatment of the events implicating this minority group, which propagates a feeling of insecurity at some Quebeckers and fuel prejudices against them. The article targets the way daily papers from Quebec depict the Muslim community from 2001 till 2017.
