Abstract

The geographical position of the archipelago as well as its political history distinguish the appearance and the structuring of popular education in this space. A status different from communities of the hexagon is visible and consequently an approach different from this movement often shows claiming always borrow of History. By the way, the notion of leisure does not dress the same meaning as in mainland France. Two realities cross the history of popular education, the one at the national level and the other one at the local level. These two realities constitute the field of the popular education in Guadeloupe today, which remains fragile after several decades of existence. Professionalization is essential to manage to put on payroll the staff in a long-lasting way. It will allow the sector to go out of the dependence to public credits and of helped jobs to arrive at an organized professional body. The sociocultural community developers can then be carried in this work by a professional project.
