Abstract

This article tries to show how the theatre forum is used as role play with community groups. It is a based on a case study of a group participating in activities developed by the Center of Theatre of the Oppressed of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). For this group, formed of women and servants workers like empeladas, the theatre appears as an opportunity to experience and learn new knowledge, to have free time, rest and happiness, to share and live with fellows having similar life histories. Participants declare to have experienced changes in their work and personal life: improvement in conviviality at work, with family and friends, changes related to the rise of selfconfidence, assurance in dealing with daily problems, critical vision of the world, active citizenship. The use of theatre forum developed skills that help to be aware and to face situations of oppression.
