Abstract

In this interview, Christine Guillebaud, an ethnomusicologist working on South Asia, discusses how her research into sound has enriched and nuanced her anthropological approach. C. Guillebaud explores the potential contributions of sound to the field of anthropology and its place within the discipline: what can sound bring to anthropology, and what is its place in the discipline? How can it be taught? How can we transmit and preserve work on sound in anthropology? This interview is a transcript, revised in consultation with Christine Guillebaud, of a round table discussion on alternative forms of writing held during the Assises de la Recherche sur l'Asie (Asian Research Conference) on September 18, 2024.
