Abstract

This paper presents the only master program in socio-cultural animation and life-long learning of Belgium. Three elements stand out: firstly, IHECS (Institut des Hautes Etudes en Communications Sociales) prepares students for the communication professions, based on active pedagogy. Secondly, the paper details how to consider “socio-cultural animation” and “life-long learning” within the program, and therefore presents its primary demands. Finally, it indicates how the department “socio-cultural animation and life-long learning” implements the curriculum without sidelining the typical traditions of university-level education, which is characterized, among others, by the willingness to teach students to become critical minds.
