Abundant since the 1980s, the researches about the city and sociocultural community development are reactivated today by the political speeches valuing social cohesion. While multiple analyses denounce the drift of the city, the rise of individualism and the exhaustion of the representative democracy, the participative imperative is inescapable in the speeches as another way of designing political action and the manufacturing of the city. Yet, if we admit that cities are organizations intended to maximize social interaction, we measure the role that can play in them sociocultural community development in the double perspective of regulation and contesting, if only occasions are brought to the inhabitants and sociocultural community developers.
