French territories in the Americas (Guyana, Martinique and Guadeloupe) have for decades been exposed to fragile socio-economic and environmental conditions. Driven by consumerist attitudes, these postcolonial territories are part of an immutable import model. Situations of inadaptation observed there constitute for the sociocultural community development of the grounds conducive to the development of innovative projects. However, political actors and some professional orders are reluctant to recognize sociocultural community development its place in the field of social work. The answer is to show how much this work feeds the dynamics of social intervention. Its main challenge is to develop a territorial educational project anchored in participatory democracy. Marie-Galante, an island dependent on the Guadeloupean archipelago, serves as an illustration.
